Hazel Dorothy Scott (June 11, 1920 – October 2, 1981) was a Trinidadian-born jazz and classical pianist, singer, and a pioneering figure in the fight against racial discrimination. Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Hazel Scott moved to New York City with her mother at the age of four. Her mother, Alma Long Scott, was a classically trained pianist and recognized Hazel’s prodigious talent early on. By the age of eight, Hazel had earned a scholarship to study at the prestigious Juilliard School. In her teens, Hazel began performing at Café Society, New York’s first integrated nightclub. She quickly gained a reputation for her unique ability to blend classical music with jazz, often “jazzing up” works by Bach and Mozart. Her performances were not only musically innovative but also transcended across barriers in the entertainment industry. In 1950, Hazel Scott made history by becoming the first Black American to host her own television show, "The Hazel Scott Show". This was a groundbreaking achievement at

Hazel Scott was an outspoken critic of the issues of that time and used her influence to advocate for better representation of different colors in film and media.
