According to eyewitness Mark Donfried, Salmond was assisting his colleague, Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, with opening a bottle of ketchup when he suddenly collapsed.
Donfried, the director of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, recounted the moments leading up to Salmond’s collapse. He described how Salmond fell back in his chair without warning, and despite immediate efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced deceased shortly after.
The cause of demise was later confirmed as a heart attack.
